Comfort of Winter....enough is enough
COMFORT OF WINTER

Winter was a comfort,
darkness gently wrapped
around my waning self.
In gray light, soft snow
fell outside my window
and darkness came early
bringing me rest.

I almost missed spring,
a bud on the tree,
a crocus or two.
It dashed by the panes,
so fleeting
that I was left unprepared

when summer arrived.
Defiantly,
it glares through the glass
Too brilliant,
the multitude of flowers.
Sun glistens
off leaves and grass
jarring my vision.
Heat drains
away my spirit.

So I wait
for autumn's release of fire,
bringing me back,
to comfort of winter.

? 1996 Anne Johnson

And so I endure once again those 'comforts of winter'. It get's harder to wax eloquent of the joys and beauty of snow and ice when you have had your fill of it, and spring is only a couple weeks away. Here is a picture I just snapped with one of those wonderful digital cameras showing a new batch of that 'comfort' that came in the night. jak

That was a lovely poem and the photo tells everything anyone needs to know about the weather you face. HOWEVER, I hate snow. I moved south to be with family AND to avoid any more snow/ice/cold than I've already endured. Double yuck. Snow. Bah humbug. Clean out that attic, give away anything you don't absolutely have to keep, and move south. It's worth the aggravation of the moving process. I planted new flowers last fall and they still bloom abundantly. Plus now the camellias and daffodils and marigolds and pansies, hyacinth, tulips...it's all going great guns. Nice to sit in warm sunshine on my porch and enjoy morning coffee surrounded by songs of nesting birds. I used to make fun of old people who go south. Not any more. Boo hiss any talk of snow. :-)
